Last Friday, Kiwanis International, which includes Palmetto High’s Key Club, participated in this year’s North Pole Express event in Parrish. The event offered plenty of sights to see, including a Christmas tree surrounded by plenty of campfires to sit down and enjoy some freshly cooked s’mores.
There were workshops such as the elf’s workshop where drawings were offered for the little ones. Santa’s helper, Ellie Johnson, was there to spread some Christmas joy singing some popular Christmas songs including Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. Not only were there elf workshops, but Santa was also there! While the lines were long, it sure was worth the wait to meet everyone’s favorite jolly old man.
And of course there was snow! It was enjoyed by all ages, however, everyone was expected to leave with messy hair.
As for food, there were plenty of treats to munch down on, ranging from fan favorites such as funnel cakes to cotton candy and popcorn. Adults looking for a quick meal could choose from chicken tenders and sandwiches, as well as varying beverages from soda to classic hand-squeezed lemonade.
Unfortunately, the last day to enjoy this winter wonderland was December 21, but it will return next year and is a must visit for families. As for Key Club members, it will be a perfect chance to get hours in, so be sure to sign up next year and explore Santa’s lovely place of magic, the North Pole.
