Palmetto High School Lockdown Scare POV from student

On Monday November 2nd at 11:45 A.M. a student from Palmetto, that should remain anonymous, stole a car past Palmetto city limits and drove all the way to Blackstone park which is next to Palmetto High School with cops in hot pursuit. The student then left the vehicle and got onto school grounds in which the cops informed the school to be put on lockdown, but there was a lot of confusion with the students and administrators.

It was just a normal lunch day at school, I got my turkey gravy which tasted alright. I was sitting with my buddies and girlfriend like normal. Then 10 minutes into lunch, we saw students sprinting into the lunchroom. In my head I thought it was a fight, nut a couple students and an administrator were yelling “Shooter! Shooter! Run!” I was so confused and my heart dropped, my biggest fear is coming into reality. My best friends started bolting to the cafeteria door and I grabbed my girlfriend’s hand and ran behind them. They managed to get by the administrator and out the gate leaving the campus, but an administrator stopped and shoved us into a room filled with cafeteria tables and 100+ frightened kids. My heart was racing so fast, I frantically started texting my mom and telling her there is a shooter on campus and I am trapped in a cafeteria room filled with windows and kids. They were crying and praying. My girlfriend was holding me so tight I couldn’t even breathe. I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t I calmed myself down and yelled to everyone to “SHUT UP!” an administrator opened up the back door to the very back of the cafeteria, which in my opinion is the safest place in the school right now. It’s been 5 minutes, not knowing if my friends would be alive or not. I overheard a walkie talkie saying “All clear, we got him.” I was relieved but still shaken up. I called my mom saying I was okay, she was crying and thanking god and i cried with her. I then left school to go home because I did not feel safe at that time.

So, the next day, it was confirmed that it was a student at our school and he was not armed and was not shooting. The cops just told us to go on lockdown fro precautionary reasons. This was easily the scariest day of my life, even if it was a false alarm it was still scary thinking about what could’ve happened if there was an actual shooter on our campus. We need to be aware of our surroundings and be cautious of everything.
