A Shocking Win for Cleveland

What does Obama’s presidency, Fetty Wap being relevant, and the release of the iPhone 6 all have in common? They were all a thing the last time the Cleveland Browns won a game. Well, that is until now. Thursday, September 20th, the Browns ended the 635-day winless streak versus the New York Jets. Thursday night was also more than just a win, it was the NFL debut for the #1 pick of the 2018 draft. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor completed 4 of 14 passes for 19 yards until he received a concussion late second quarter. This led to rookie, Baker Mayfield, leading the Browns to their first win since December 24, 2016. Aside from the win, Mayfield was the highlight of the night completing 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards, a two point conversion, and no interceptions after entering the game with 1:23 left in the second quarter. Wide reciever Jarvis Landry played big that night too hauling in 8 catches for 103 yards.

It appeared as if the Browns had just won the Super Bowl by the way the town and team celebrated. The whole stadium was packed which is shocking due to the low attendance rates of previous Brown’s games. Despite the Browns being 1-1-1 on the season, their fans proceeded to sing “We Are the Champions” after the win. Browns fans, Sports News Stations, and even fans of other teams took to twitter to share their disbelief and joy. The Browns were trending for the first time since 2002, which was their last playoff appearance. Despite being the laughingstock of the NFL for years, the Browns aren’t looking half bad this season and hope to continue the rebuilding process and hopefully enjoy more nights like this. The Browns have yet to win a game on Sunday since December 13, 2015, but look to change that this season.
