The Palmetto Tigers boys and girls’ tennis teams made their way up to Treasure Cove, St. Petersburg for a district tournament on April 17th and 18th. Both teams played high ranking individuals from many different schools and gave their most valiant efforts, but fell just short of making it to regionals. However, three freshmen played exceptionally well. Freshman, Liyah Donkor made it to the second day of singles in the 5th seat and placed second. Along with Liyah, our two other freshmen, on the boys team, Dean Sabatino and Sammy Slovak, made it to the second round of the two seat doubles match. Although the Tigers fell just short of making it to regionals, they did not give up on themselves or on each other. Going to districts helped the team to bond more and get to know each other better for the many seasons ahead! Having three freshmen make it to the second round, gives Palmetto hope for the future, hopefully enabling them to keep playing and possibly leading our teams to victory for many more years to come. Palmetto High School is very proud of both teams efforts and hopes that this will spark a fire in them to win next year!
