The East Manatee Admirals, a local competitive hockey league, had an exciting night, Friday, February 16. The team composed of a combination of Lakewood Ranch and Palmetto High School students won the Lightning Cup, the local area championship, beating East Lake 5-3. The Admirals then moved on to the State Championship losing in a shoot-out against Miami Dade, but redeemed themselves, playing the team again, winning 6-1. Throughout this championship, they obtained three more wins, beating Southwest Broward 10-1, the Westside Mutts 13-0, and Plant 6-0. The East Manatee Admirals are now advancing on to the National Championship occurring March 21-26. This state title results in a tier 2 division seat out of the combined high schools. The team would love for everyone to come out and support them on their road to victory. Palmetto High’s very own, Nevada Woodring, Tyler Knight, Tyler Stowe, Jeremy Varna, Richard Grover, Josh Heldwein, Thomas Hanshaw, Ian Ruark, and Mike Ferreira have worked diligently to get to the position they are in now and Palmetto High would like to congratulate and wish them luck as they advance. Come out and enjoy a game, supporting your fellow East Manatee Admirals!
