Surviving A High School Relationship

If your relationship is past one year, dates can be washed up. In this small town of Palmetto, there is only so much that you can do until you have completely tackled every hangout spot or nice restaurant. Instead of going out, try making dinner together. Rent a movie from RedBox and take that time to sit back and relax. Just a tip; comedies are always the best choice. Laughter is the best medicine.

Open communication is essential. If he did not text you back that night, and it really ticked you off, discuss it with him the next day. If you can tell that your significant other is noticeably putting more effort into their appearance for you, compliment them on it. Little things like this really keep a relationship steady. Holding back how you feel is only going to make you bottle up emotions and make you become spiteful towards your significant other for no reason at all. Something as simple as chewing with your mouth open could set them off on a rampage when really they are upset about things you have been doing for the last couple of weeks.

Most importantly, remember those things that keep you in this relationship in the first place. When a relationship is not going in the right direction, some couples only look at the negatives of the relationship instead of remembering the positives. Sure, it aggravates you to no end whenever he or she makes plans without you, but would you be willing to lose the right to be the one that holds their heart because of that? Are you really prepared to give up their shoulder to lean on? What about the privilege to be the reason why their eyes light up when they laugh or smile?

Being in a long-lasting relationship takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I would know, as I am in the third year of my own. However, instead of pouring pessimistic thoughts into your head, remember that a relationship is something so terrific and special to have. In fact, just being in the relationship I am in now is the best decision I have ever made in my lifetime. Though the waters may be rough sometimes, I will never give up what is ours, and you should not give up on yours, either. Instead of giving up, be that couple that can say they made it though every obstacle high school threw at them. Remember that you are their reason to smile, and they are yours.
