Did You Know…

Hello fellow PHS students. School has started up yet again. Some of you have only a few more months of high school while others are just starting to reinvent themselves. After a great summer, school can start to stress you out. Here are some random facts that I hope will help you on a test or can at least make you laugh.

  •  Every time you learn something new you get a wrinkle in your brain. (By the end of this article you should have 20 more wrinkles.)
  • About a third of all Americans flush the toilet while they are still sitting on it. (Who wanted to test this out?)
  •  Women blink nearly twice as much as men. (Very helpful in flirting.)
  •  A sneeze zooms out of your mouth at over 600mph. (That is as fast as a cannon firing pumpkins!)
  •  A Saudi Arabian woman can get a divorce if her husband does not give her coffee. (Some women just need coffee more than a husband.)
  •  Every person has a unique tongue print. (Police: “Please stick out your tongue to verify you identity.”)
  •  Bubble gum contains rubber. (You are chewing on a tire!)
  •  Most American car horns honk in the key of F. (Mind blown!)
  •  Every time Beethoven sat down to write music, he poured ice water over his head. (He composed over 400 songs. Did he do this for rough drafts too?)
  •  There are more plastic flamingos in America than real ones. (Thank you Florida.)
  •  In 1980, a Las Vegas hospital suspended workers for betting on when patients would die. (“He has twenty-two hours thirty-one minutes and six seconds.” “Nope, I bet twenty-two hours thirty-one minutes and twelve seconds.”)
  •  Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes. (Falling hundreds of feet to death or getting every bone in your body broken via a donkey?)
  •  The NY phone book had 22 Hitler’s listed before WW2 and none after. (No, my names Herald now.)
  •  The Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries. (Admit it. You have done it or are now tempted to.)
  •  The Average human eats eight spiders in their lifetime at night. (Can they bite you in your stomach?)
  •  Many people who read the word yawn or yawning begin to feel the urge to yawn. (Every time while editing this article! I hope you feel the urge.)
  • About 1 out of every 2 million people will die by falling out of bed. (“Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”)If an infant becomes blind soon after they are born they will still almost always see images in their dreams, but infants born with blindness will most likely never have dreams with images. People who were born blind do still have very emotionally intense dreams which include hearing, smells, feeling and taste. (I might actually need to know this in life.)
